PLATFORM
The candidate is a long-time resident of Beaver Falls, wife, mother, grandmother, and serves on the Big Beaver Falls Area School Board. Her connection to the labor movement goes back to her roots as the daughter of union members.
Darcelle's campaign stresses funding for education and health. She has worked with young people for years, as a transition specialist with the Beaver County Rehabilitation Center. She argues from that experience, that unions are crucial to the future work force. Young people need career and technical training.
Beaver Falls is in political trouble. The incumbent Republican was able to grab the Democratic nomination. Darcelle, a Democrat, met this challenge by obtaining the nomination of the Green Party. She now looks to win the votes of local Democrats by running as a pro-people, pro-labor candidate. Remember NOT to vote Straight Party on Nov. 6th. A vote straight party is a vote for the Republican incumbent.
ISSUES
Education
As a School Board Director, Darcelle has had a lot of experience with education issues. When in office, she will fight for fair and equitable funding for all public schools in PA helping to limit the burden on you as homeowners' school taxes and more responsibility on the state.
Diversity & Community
Darcelle intends to represent all of her constituents. She knows what it's like to live in one of our river towns and struggle to raise a family. She's one of us & it shows. She'll be there for all of us, bringing our issues to the table.
Union Issues
Darcelle knows that union jobs make families stronger.
She opposes any legislation that will weaken unions and the process of collective bargaining such as “right to work (for less)” legislation;
She supports Prevailing Wage Laws and opposing any legislation to outlaw Project Labor Agreements;
She supports legislation that promotes access to public schools with the resources to officer a well-rounded curriculum.
She opposes any legislation that leads to the privatization of services that are currently provided through public authorities
Healthcare
Darcelle knows that we all need healthcare. It's a human right and we should all have access, regardless of how much money we may or may not have. She supports moving us towards a single payer healthcare system, like Medicare for All. She'll work to move us in that direction here in PA. No one should have to decide whether they can afford to pay for a prescription or put food on the table.
Environment
Darcelle understands that our region needs jobs, which means we need industry. As a State Representative, she intend to make sure we have a strong, functioning PA Dept of Environmental Protection. She realizes that our DEP has been defunded & now must be strengthened & supported so that it can deal with all the industrial growth happening in our region. Clean air and clean water is a must!
Darcelle also intends to make sure the Marcellus Shale benefits everyone in our region. She's in favor of a gas severance tax.
